Moving on from Skitch?Bring your files.

Snix is a Skitch alternative for the Mac: a native app for capturing and marking up screenshots. It opens Skitch 2.9 images and turns supported markup back into objects you can edit.

Snap a region, a window or the whole screenCapture a region (⌃⌘5), a window (⌃⌘W) or the full screen (⌃⌘6). Or set Snix up to take over ⇧⌘3, ⇧⌘4 and ⇧⌘5.
Snap after a countdownCapture a region after a delay, or an open menu with its title.
Draw arrows, boxes and linesArrows, rectangles, rounded rectangles, ellipses and lines, in any color and size.
Type on the pictureText typed right on the image, edited in place.
Highlight and draw by handA pen and a highlighter.
Stamp thingsApproved, rejected, question, important and star stamps, each with an optional label.
Pixelate private detailsA mosaic, frosted glass or a solid cover. Exported images and PDFs leave out what is underneath; a .snix project keeps it, so send an export.
Crop and resizeCrop, resize, add a white margin, rotate or flip.
Mark up a PDFAnnotate every page, duplicate or delete pages, and keep untouched pages’ text searchable.
Drag the result into an emailDrag the file icon into a Finder folder or an app that accepts files, with no Save dialog. Or export PNG, JPEG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, GIF, BMP or PDF.

Open your Skitch 2.9 images in Snix.

Skitch 2.9 saved its markup inside the images it wrote. Snix reads the markup it supports, so an old arrow can open as an arrow you can move, not as pixels.

  1. In Snix, press ⌘O and choose the image, or drag it onto the Snix canvas.
  2. When the markup can be rebuilt, each arrow, text and shape becomes a Snix object. Move, restyle or delete it.
  3. Save a .snix project to keep editing later. The Skitch file is never changed.

Good to know

  • Only Skitch 2.9 images are supported. Older formats, including .skitch files, don’t open.
  • Snix reads Skitch files but never writes them.
  • If some markup can’t be rebuilt, the whole image opens flat, exactly as Skitch drew it, and Snix tells you. It never imports half and drops the rest.
  • Stamps and speech-bubble text use Snix’s own styles, so they look a little different.
  • Pixelation Skitch already baked into the picture stays part of the background. It doesn’t become an editable cover.
